As World Youth Citizens are living far from each other, "events" are always an occasion to meet up.
WYC was founded by a group of young delegates who met at the 2nd World Congress of Youth 2003 in Morocco. They gathered again one year later at the Student Days "One World" in Karlsruhe, Germany, which were organised by a local WYC group in the framework of the Agenda 21.
Since 2004, these "Karlsruher Schuelertage" have every year brought together young people from around the world offering a one-week workshop programme for local high-school students. any of us met there in person. Also, the concept of the "Schuelertage" can be adapted by other youth groups. For example a group of high-school students in Renningen, Germany, organised their Student Days in April 2006.
The 3rd World Youth Congress 2005 in Scotland offered us the occasion to enlarge our network with some further engaged young people and to exchange with other youth organisations and groups. The World Youth Congress series of the Britisch NGO Peace Child International is a kind of "harbour" for WYC as many ideas and objectives come from these gatherings.
Furthermore, we also use other events to present WYC. In this sense, we had a stand at the World YouthFestival 2004 in Barcelona and run a workshop at "Berlin 05 - Festival for youth and politics".
In order to develop our network, we also try to organise meetings of World Youth Citizens apart from external events. At the "Buntingford meeting" in December 2006, for example, we elaborated our current structure and agenda.
